Throughout Vietnam’s development journey, there are industrial projects that are not only built to serve production, but also carry the mission of preserving and strengthening the nation’s foundational capabilities. SOFAVI is the first Sorbitol manufacturing plant in Vietnam, established with the goal of developing and maintaining domestic production capacity for essential pharmaceutical-grade ingredients. The company serves industries such as food, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, and industrial processing. In the context of increasingly volatile global supply chains, mastering key raw materials is not only an economic priority but also a matter of national security and social stability. With technology transferred from Europe and a highly trained workforce of engineers and technicians, SOFAVI acts as a bridge between Vietnam’s local agricultural resources—specifically cassava starch—and the modern chemical and pharmaceutical industry. In doing so, the company enhances the value of agricultural products, promotes deep processing industries, and reduces dependence on imported raw materials. As Vietnam enters a new era of growth—focused on economic autonomy, technological self-reliance, and sustainable development—SOFAVI clearly defines its role not only as a manufacturing enterprise, but as a strategic component within the national chemical and pharmaceutical industrial ecosystem, contributing to the realization of a self-reliant and resilient economy.

Established in August 2010, France – Vietnam Sorbitol Joint Stock Company (SOFAVI) was developed in alignment with the national plan for the chemical and pharmaceutical industry, approved by the Prime Minister under Decision No. 81/2009/QĐ-TTg. Its mission is to build domestic production capacity and progressively achieve self-sufficiency in pharmaceutical raw materials to support the national economy. The plant was developed with a focus on mastering production technology, utilizing Vietnam’s natural, non-GMO cassava starch as a key input, while adopting advanced technology lines from France. This ensures compliance with the stringent standards of the food, pharmaceutical, and healthcare industries. From the outset, SOFAVI has been positioned as a long-term industrial project, aimed at building stable Sorbitol production capacity and establishing a value chain from agriculture to chemical production. Through various challenges, the company has remained committed to preserving its core capabilities, prioritizing long-term value over short-term gains. Entering a new phase of development, as Vietnam accelerates the growth of its foundational industries, promotes raw material self-sufficiency, and advances a circular economy, SOFAVI continues to restructure and upgrade its operations toward becoming a high-tech Sorbitol manufacturing facility, committed to sustainable development and long-term contributions to the country.
